Dancing with our Dads....

Learning to Cajun Dance...

Our Girl Scout helpers.
Saturday Work Time...
Getting started at Mahalia Jackson School...
Hearing about the great vision for this school.
Taking a tour of the school.
The day begins...
We picked up trash on the new basketball court that the NBA built...
and around the school grounds.

Sometimes it took some help from Mom...

We organized the tool shed...

Our fearless leaders
We painted the garbage can holders...
and ourselves...

We also repaired and painted the fence by the playground.
We worked alone...
and with friends....
and with the neighborhood children.

We moved planters into place.....
filled them with dirt....
and then planted some flowers to make the playground prettier.

We needed to pave the way to the playground....

We had to bring the dirt to fill in the cracks too!
Best of all...we got to spend time with friends while we worked.

The Saint Michael's kids with the neighborhood kids who helped us.
After a great morning of work, we headed off to Cafe Reconcile for lunch...

Cafe Reconcile was started by the Episcopal Church to help train at-risk youth to work in the hospitality industry with hands-on training.
Lunch was deliscious...

and we learned something along the way from our fellow workers.

After lunch, we loaded the bus and picked up our tour guide for a tour/pilgrimmage of New Orleans.

Tour/Pilgrimmage of New Orleans
We took a tour of New Orleans that included prayer stops at different sites around the city. Below are pictures of some of the areas we saw.

The canal by the Lower 9th Ward that was breached in Katrina
While we saw many homes that weren't being repaired or just did not exist anymore, there was hope. New construction has begun in the Lower 9th Ward and people are returning slowly, but surely.

Dinner at the New Orleans School of Cooking

We had yummy gumbo, crawfish etouffee, bananas Foster, and pralines.

Lots of fun was had by all.

We had a few more education talks during dinner too on New Orleans music, food, and interesting people.

Sunday morning we went to services at Trinity Church then had a potluck lunch.

After lunch, we headed back to Dallas.
