Indian Reservation
Summer Trip

The Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation is located in south central South Dakota on the
South Dakota /Nebraska state line.  It is home to some 21,250 members of the Sicangu
(Brule or Burnt Thigh) band of the Lakota or Teton Sioux.

The purpose of our trip is to explore the reservation and Lakota culture, to meet its people
and with luck return to Dallas with a better understanding of how we in Dallas and the
Lakota people at Rosebud might be able to help each other on a long term basis.  Our work
projects vary from year to year and are generally developed in response to a request from
the community. Increasingly, our focus seems to be on the children and the elderly of
the community. Specifically, we will offer a Vacation Bible School for the children, we will
feed children and we are developing a horsemanship program as well as an ongoing sports
based relationship with the youth. Additionally, we desperately need anyone with a
medical background to inquire about the possibility of volunteering to help out.

This is a trip where new friendships are made, rewarding labor is performed and doors
are opened to a deeper more fulfilling spiritual life.
