MORE ABOUT THE REV. MIKE WALLENS
Originally from Chicago, Wallens was raised in the Jewish tradition. He took a detour along the way and has been an Episcopal priest since 1978. Father Mike has served in seven Episcopal schools in four states. He has also served in diocesan staff positions in Chicago and served in long-time supply and interim positions in many churches. Rev. Wallens served as chaplain at Kennedy Airport, worked with youth in juvenile detention and various specialty camps for children who suffer from various diseases and mental challenges. Additionally, he has served as a spiritual director, and provided spiritual mentoring for those who feel called to ordained ministry.
Rev. Wallens currently serves in the Diocese of the Rio Grande and is the co-chair of the Rio Grande Borderland Ministries. RGBM does a lot of work at our Southern border, with people seeking asylum as well as working in small villages and towns around our border. In addition, he serves as Vicar at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Marfa, Texas and rides the circuit to provide the Eucharist and pastoral care to four other congregations in Far West Texas.
Mike met his wife Susan in college and has been married for over 47 years. The two have grown sons who currently live in Austin and have two dogs named Waffles and Obadiah that, "fill our empty nest". Mike says that he "enjoys serving our Lord, praying, cooking, hiking, laughing and dreaming!"
