Amistad Bolivia Youth Mission Trip | Day 1

July 29, 2024

4 flights, 2 customs screenings, 16 checked bags, and 26 hours later, we have made it to Cochabamba, Bolivia! Despite the long hours getting here, spirits were high as we flew over the Bolivian Mountains to arrive in Cochabamba. While driving through the city on the way to our lodging, a beautiful villa called La Morada, we were treated to beautiful views of the mountains, and the statue of Christ with arms wide, overlooking the city. After showers and a nap or two we were treated with a great meal before we loaded back up in the van to go meet the children of Casa Esperanza (meaning house of hope in English) at the Villa Amistad. The children there lived up to their namesake. Despite all their hardships, these children were so full of joy and laughter. Later in the evening, several of our students remarked how they were able to see God at work in the Villa Amistad and in particular, in the faces of these children.

Once we arrived back at La Morada, we were gifted a breathtaking sunset over the mountains to mark the end of a full and wonderful day. After breaking bread and gathering for compline we turned in for the night eager for sleep, but full of expectations and hope for a terrific week ahead.

We are grateful for your prayers and encouragement and look forward to providing more updates in the days to come!
