Amistad Bolivia Youth Mission Trip | Day 4
August 1, 2024
For those of you who have engaged in overseas missions, you will understand that a theme of a mission given to us by God is “hold your plans lightly”. That was certainly the case today in Bolivia! As we were leaving for The Villa to plant our plants, we received a call to instead bring arts and crafts for all the children. You see we woke up to a planned nationwide strike due to the lack of gasoline and diesel fuel throughout Bolivia. The children all stayed home from school as there were various roadblocks across the country, including in Cochabamba. We therefore arrived to a crowd of children.
We started by sharing chapel time with them. I was asked by some of the staff to lead the worship time by speaking on the subject of trauma, forgiveness and faith. It was a special time, and I was delighted by the number of questions the children asked me as part of the reflection. Most of our children come from situations involving alcoholism, addiction and/or abuse, and so it was wonderful to be able to create a safe space where they could ask questions. We also prayed and sang beautiful songs in Spanish, ending with a lively one where we run around the chapel space sharing blessings with one another.
After chapel we set up tables under the trees in the yard. We all built birdhouses which the children then painted and decorated. After lunch, we hosted a lively session of BINGO that works a little differently in Spanish. Tonight please keep our team in your prayers. The strike is already over; however, we have a few people including Sam Moore who are feeling a little puny. Prayers for complete healing and for days filled with friendship and joy are much appreciated!
Blessings this day!
