Amistad Bolivia Youth Mission Trip | Day 5
August 2, 2024
Today might have been the best day yet! We began the morning with a trip to one of Cochabamba’s largest parks with the children of Casa Esperanza, including the four new girls who joined the family only yesterday. Although new to the family, it was beautiful to see how the other children of Casa Esperanza already considered them sisters and welcomed them with open arms. After wearing ourselves out on the jungle gyms, swings, and slides, we feasted on some local fried chicken before getting back on the bus to drive into the mountains to visit Cristo De La Concordia, the larger-than-life statue of Christ that overlooks the city.
Standing 130 ft tall, Cristo De La Concordia is a little more than 30 ft taller than its famed twin, Christ the Redeemer, in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The statue sits atop one of the largest mountains in Cochabamba. Several of our fearless youth decided they wanted to conquer the hike to the top, climbing a whopping 2000 steps. After taking pictures, enjoying ice cream and playing some games we made our way back down the mountain, full of awe and wonder at the beauty of the statue and the city below.
In the evening, Mother Robin led our team in a Holy Eucharist service in the little chapel inside our villa. We reflected on the 23rd Psalm and what it meant to look to God as our true shepherd. We have been so encouraged by the testimonies of those around us this week and it has been a true gift to see models of faith in action before us and to share the love of Christ with our brothers and sisters in return. One more full day left! Please continue to hold the children of Amistad and the youth of Saint Michael in your prayers.
Peace,
–Sam
