"Traditional music plays an integral role in worship at Saint Michael. Our Choirs, led by acclaimed, award-winning organist/choirmasters, beautify our worship and lead us in congregational singing. The church’s music program offers unique choral singing opportunities for young children, youth, and adults. Saint Michael Presents provides high quality entertaining concerts open to the public free of charge throughout the year. The music ensembles in our traditional services have a reputation for excellence throughout the Episcopal Church and within the greater Dallas community."

Choral Evensong for All Souls
SUNDAYS SEPT 27 - DEC 13
Coming from the Latin completorium, from which we have our word “complete,” this meditative service is designed as the concluding prayer of our day. Lasting about 25 minutes and offered in our candlelit church, this liturgy centers around Psalms, Scripture, and prayers taken from Scripture (including the Nunc Dimittis – the Song of Simeon). The service is entirely unaccompanied music by the Compline Choir consisting of Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony - no sermon or Holy Eucharist. The particular liturgical aesthetic of our Compline is aimed at concluding our weekend with reflection, calm, and peace. Choral Compline is an ideal offering for those who may not regularly attend church.
SAINT MICHAEL CHOIR
The Saint Michael Choir is the church’s adult choir. They meet virtually on Wednesday nights, prepare virtual choir anthems for use in live streamed liturgies, and contribute to our music podcast. When we are able to be together safely, the choir meets for rehearsal on Wednesday nights and sings for Sunday liturgies. They also prepare music for additional special services such as Evensong, Holy Week services, Advent Lessons & Carols, and Christmas Lessons & Carols. The Choir is open to adults by audition. For more information, contact Jonathan Ryan, Director of Music at [email protected] or 214-363-5471 ext. 223.
SAINT MICHAEL CHERUB CHOIR
Saint Michael Cherub Choir is a music exploration time in which young choristers are taught the basics of healthy singing, music literacy, and liturgical formation through simple songs and hymn singing. This group is for children in grades Pre-K - 2. For the upcoming 2020-2021 year, Cherub Choir programming will continue with a variety of instructional techniques, including one on one virtual instruction, small group opportunities and in-person rehearsals, as possible. If your child loves to sing and you want them to grow into the Saint Michael Chorister program with confidence in their musicianship, then sign up for our Cherub Choir experience. SAINT MICHAEL CHORISTERS
Saint Michael Choristers is a fun, comprehensive music education program available to ages 4-18. Modeled after the Royal School of Church Music and English cathedrals, choristers receive a high level of training in singing, music theory and music history. They not only participate at the heart of worship, learn about our faith, and receive professional level musical instruction, they also experience growth on many other levels, including socially, verbally, and academically. This ministry is an excellent opportunity for discipleship for young people in our church. Choristers build friendships and enjoy regular social offerings, both virtually and in-person in small groups. No music background is necessary, but new older choristers and their parent(s) first need to meet with music staff for placement.
Several distinct choirs make up this program: the Cherub Choir, Choir of Boys and Girls, and Choir of Teen Boys and Men. This year, as health policies allow, we are excited to add a community meal on Wednesdays with chorister families. For more information, contact Dr. Meg Harper. To register, visit www.saintmichael.org/choristers
CHOIR OF BOYS & GIRLS
The Choir of Boys and Girls is for boys in grades 3-8 and girls in grades 3-8 who rehearse on Wednesday (with alternate rehearsal times available on Tuesday and Thursday) and sing virtual anthems for the 9:00 Sunday live streamed traditional Eucharist. Rehearsal for the 2020-2021 year will be done with a combination of virtual coachings online and, as possible within our health guidelines, small groups in person and distanced. The Choir of Boys and Girls usually sing with the Choir of Teen Boys and Men with some staff singers to create a full SATB ensemble.
NEW: CHOIR OF SENIOR GIRLS
This year, we are launching a new extension of our Chorister program to high school. The Choir of Senior Girls is for girls in grades 9-12. Their liturgical home will normally remain at the 9 AM Sunday service, including taking part in virtual choir anthems aired at our 9 live webcast service.
NEW: CHOIR OF SENIOR BOYS & MEN
This year, we are launching a new extension of our Chorister program, a choir for teen boys whose voices have changed. We are excited to now be able to offer a full spectrum of choirs for all ages, and particularly to be able to offer our boys a musical opportunity as they move into high school. This choir combines boys in grades 9-12 with men (staff singers and volunteers) who help to provide an example for their changing voices. The Choir of Teen Boys and Men usually sing with the Choir of Boys and Girls and some staff singers to create a full SATB ensemble.
