The Letter to the Hebrews
Led by Dr. Elizabeth Lang, Dr. Brady Millican, and Barbara Kennard
How can you explain the significance of Christ to people in our culture who are not familiar with the time in which the New Testament was written? The Letter to the Hebrews offers a compelling case for the significance of Christ in our lives today. It uses sophisticated reasoning as well as powerful interpretations of Jewish scripture and worship to present the living grace of Christ, wherever we find ourselves now. Come explore this treasured text with us.

You now have a choice between two options: 1) the “Wide Angle” one-year course, which provides and overview of Scripture and Christianity, or 2) the “Classic” four-year course, which includes the one-year “Wide Angle” overview, but continues for the next three years, inviting participants to discern and act in faith on a deeper level.
Offered through the School of Theology of the University of the South (Sewanee), EfM meets on Tuesdays at Saint Michael beginning Tuesday, September 9, and you can sign up for either the morning, afternoon, or evening session. Meets on Wednesdays | 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. starting September 3, 2025
Since the 4th century in the Christian era, congregations have been guided by the lectionary’s imaginative and disciplined journey through the Bible. Using these readings, the liturgy, music, colors, movements, and celebrations of the church year, the Bible and the arts are brought together in a significant way. Imaging the Word is a resource providing visual arts, music, photography, prose, poetry, prayers, and commentary based on each Sunday’s lectionary readings.

In Exile & Return: A Time to Build, we will explore the lives of men and women who firmly built their lives on God’s promises. While they certainly weren’t perfect, they were faithful. These men and women were willing to sacrifice everything to serve the Lord. When the world threatened their comfort, their position, their livelihood, and even their livesthey stood firm. Books included in this year’s study include Ezekiel, Daniel, Ezra, Esther, Haggai, Zechariah, Nehemiah, and Malachi. These men and women were not praised by their culture, but their legacy of faithfulness still impacts us today.
If you have any questions, contact Kimberly Colonnetta (214-683-1259). To join, go to www.bsfinternational.org, go to “Find a Class” and follow the prompts to Saint Michael and all Angels Episcopal Church. We hope to see you there!

Lectio Divina
Meets on Thursdays, November 7 – December 19, 2024 | 2 – 3 p.m.
Take some time to get out of the hurried ways of life and the noise around us to draw close to God with others through Lectio Divina. It provides a time of meditation and quiet focusing upon a reading or even art, followed by discussion and growth with others. Lectio is not a Bible study or even an alternative to Bible study but something radically different. It understands Scripture as a meeting place for a personal encounter with the living God. All you need is a desire to be changed.
