The Building our Future capital campaign will transform our physical and spiritual life together. In this campaign, long-overdue campus needs will be addressed to Unite Our Community, Reinvigorate Our Campus, and Invest in Education. Although we will experience some short-term inconveniences that come with any construction project, our efforts will bring long-term benefits that strengthen our parish by better utilizing our space for life-changing praying, teaching, gathering, and connecting.
The planned schedule for construction is:
NEWS TO KNOW
Every day we are making significant progress on Saint Michael’s unprecedented Building our Future construction project. We are about to embark on the last stretch of Phase 1, and it’s important that you know what to expect, so together, we can continue in community worship and have fellowship with one another.
There is now a big shift in how you enter and leave the church building – especially on Sundays.
On Sundays, which doors will be open?
On Sunday mornings, we encourage parishioners to enter only through the Red Chapel Doors on Colgate Avenue and the Main Church Doors on Douglas Avenue for worship services.
Where is the best place to park?
The West Lot off Colgate Ave., is the best place to park and then walk along Colgate Ave. for easy access to the Church and Chapel.
Will there be restrooms available?
Yes. While we are building three new permanent restrooms at the back of the church, which will be ready in September, we are providing high-quality, air-conditioned, handicap-accessible restrooms on the south side of the church next to the circle drive on Colgate.
Is Nursery going to still be available?
No. The nursery is temporarily closed from Sunday, July 28 until it reopens on September 22. Meghan Houk, Director of Children and Family Ministries is reaching out to those families who use the nursery to let them know.
How will Children’s Chapel work?
Children ages three through eight are invited to meet a member of our ministry staff by the pulpit to be escorted to Children’s Chapel; they will return to the nave following the Peace.
Is security onsite on Sundays?
Definitely. For the Sunday morning and evening services, security will be onsite to keep our parishioners safe.
For Volunteers:
Where will the choir, acolytes, vergers, altar guild, and clergy vest for the services?
The South Entrance is the new, temporary home for these volunteers to vest and prepare for Sunday services.
Can volunteers (choir, acolytes, vergers, altar guild, and clergy) use the South Entrance door to enter into the South Lanai to vest?
Yes. Only these volunteers can enter these doors. Greets and Ushers, please direct parishioners to the Red Chapel Doors for services in the Chapel and the Main Church Doors for the Church.
Where are the sacristies located now?
The Bishop Moore Chapel has been deconsecrated and repurposed for the altar guild and priest sacristies.
Will there be a rehearsal or walk through for my volunteer group so I know how this new flow will work?
Haley Dettra, Director of Worship Ministries, will be in contact with each group to coordinate how your group will get to the right spots.
When will the Church be open, so I can prepare for my Sunday volunteer responsibilities?
On Sundays, the building will be open from 6:45 a.m. – 1 p.m. for morning services and 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. for the evening service. The receptionist and sextons will be there on Sunday mornings and just sextons on Sunday evenings.

TREE UPDATE
As with any major construction project, it will be necessary to remove a limited number of trees on the east and north side of campus. However, we will be planting many new trees as part of this project. We are also exploring the possibility of creating some beautiful objects from the wood of the trees that need to come down, and we will share details when we have them.
All church clergy and staff have moved out of their church office spaces and are settling into suites in the office building we own located on the northwest corner of our campus at 8100 Lomo Alto, where they will work for the next two years.
Meeting with Clergy and Staff
The staff are in six different suites on the first and second floors of the Lomo Alto building, which could make it challenging to find team members. To make it easy for you to find your way, Suite 125 on the first floor of the east side of the building is our main reception area where we will greet all guests. Simply check in with the receptionist who will gladly direct you to the right place. Your Saint Michael clergy and staff are looking forward to welcoming you to their new offices.
Parking at 8100 Lomo Alto
There are several designated reserved parking spots along the perimeter of the 8100 Lomo Alto for Saint Michael visitors. If those spots are occupied, we invite you to park in any unmarked, unreserved space around the building.
RESTRICTED SPACES
Several of our spaces are now closed for construction. For your safety and liability for the church, please refrain from entering spaces marked as "closed" during the construction process.
SAINT MICHAEL EPISCOPAL SCHOOL RENOVATION
Saint Michael Episcopal School is now closed for construction, and we have begun to renovate and revitalize SMES classrooms, with a planned reopening date of September 11, 2024.
