Centering Prayer Group

WHERE: Bishop Moore Chapel
Led by Shannon Callewart

Participants meet to engage in Centering Prayer. Come and sit in silence and simply wait on God who remains always with us but is often not sensed nor heard because of our noisy and busy lives. Join us and learn how to rest in God. Enrollment and Questions: [email protected].

Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous (FA)

WHEN: Thursdays, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
WHERE: NOT MEETING AT THIS TIME

Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous (FA) is a support group for people recovering from the disease of food addiction. FA is a program based on the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. There are no dues, fees, or weigh-ins. Rather, it is a fellowship of men and women who, through shared experience, support each other in recovering from the disease of food addiction. For more information contact The Rev. Greg Pickens, [email protected].

Parish Nurse Ministry

WHEN: 9:30 to 11 a.m., third Sunday of each month except June and July
WHERE: Nurse’s Station, South Entrance
Led by Diane Boyd, RN

The Saint Michael Parish Nurse Ministry is made up of professional Registered Nurses from our parish. Among other services, the Parish Nurses maintain a station in the South Lanai on the third Sunday of each month, taking blood pressures and providing information regarding the focus of health awareness for the month.
Questions: Contact Dianne Boyd, RN, [email protected].

Prayer Ministry Book Study

WHEN: Thursdays, 1-1:50 p.m.
WHERE: Via Zoom
Led by Kimberly Colonnetta

Who is the Holy Spirit? How can we unleash the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives? The Prayer Ministry Book Study will examine these questions by delving into The Rev. Billy Graham’s insightful book, “The Holy Spirit: Activating God’s Power in Your life.” With prayerful reverence and focused wisdom, Dr. Graham puts an understandable face on this mysterious third Person of the Trinity and reminds us that God’s power is available through the Holy Spirit. The book study, facilitated by Kimberly Colonnetta, is ongoing into the spring.

Newcomers are still welcome to join! For information, please contact Kimberly Colonnetta.

Prayer Shawl Knitting Ministry

WHEN: First and third Tuesdays of the month, 1 to 3 p.m.
WHERE: Room 103
Led by Byrd Teague

To date, over 2,590 prayer shawls have been knitted and distributed by the Saint Michael Prayer Shawl Knitting Ministry, extending the love of our parish to those who are hurting or ill. Each of these shawls is tagged with a label that identifies it as being knit with love at Saint Michael and a healing prayer is added. Each shawl is blessed by the clergy and by the entire congregation prior to distribution. Join us for camaraderie, prayers and the joy of knitting a message of love. Questions: Contact Byrd Teague, [email protected].

Praying Our Goodbyes

WHEN: 10 to 11:30 a.m., third Wednesday of the month
WHERE: Parlor
Led by The Rev. Dr. Hiltrude Nusser-Telfer

Praying our Goodbyes is a mourning and grief support ministry that addresses grief of any kind--such as a death, a job loss, a business, a home, or divorce. Utilizing readings from the book, “Praying Our Goodbyes” by Joyce Rupp, The Rev. Dr. Nusser-Telfer, helps those in attendance examine their grief and recognize it. All are losses that we grieve and we must grieve in order to recognize that loss. The Rev. Dr. Nusser-Telfer tells us “that for humans to shorten or circumvent the grieving process is to invite illness and even severe depression.” RSVP and Questions: [email protected].

Pre-Marriage Counseling Meetings

WHEN: Sundays – April 11, 18, 25, and May 2 (at 1 p.m. on Zoom. More future dates listed on the Weddings page)
WHERE: Online via Zoom
Led by The Rev. Greg Pickens and Noralyn Pickens Ph.D.

This series is led by The Rev. Greg Pickens and Noralyn Pickens, Ph.D. and is offered to prepare couples for marriage and their life together.

Registration and questions: Assistant for Liturgy and Worship, Dianne Boyd, [email protected], See Weddings to review the details of scheduling a wedding at Saint Michael.

The Reverend Greg Pickens grew up in Oklahoma and came to Texas for college. Following his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas, Greg worked in the professional/executive search industry and in the computer services industry. In 1999, he began working toward the ordained ministry through the Diocese of Dallas. During his theological studies at Nashotah House in Wisconsin, Greg chose to work in at a downtown Milwaukee parish because of its diverse, urban setting. It was there he met his wife, Noralyn, and her daughter, Annie. After graduation and ordination to the Deaconate, he returned to Dallas. Following a short season as a Deacon, Greg was ordained to the priesthood in 2006 and served as Rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Irving, before being called to Saint Michael and All Angels in 2011.

The Rev. Dr. Hiltrude Nusser-Telfer

Pastoral Care Assistant

The Rev. Dr. Hiltrude Nusser-Telfer joined the clergy staff at Saint Michael and All Angels as a Pastoral Care Assistant in February 2016. A long-time friend of Saint Michael, she celebrates Eucharist monthly at The Edgemere. Hiltrude is a licensed priest in the Diocese of Dallas and a Board Certified Chaplain. She received her B.A. and Masters degrees in Religious Studies at Catholic University in Louvain, Belgium, and was ordained to the Priesthood in the Diocese of Ohio in 2002. She earned her Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Care from The General Theological Foundation in 2010. She has three married sons, the youngest of whom lives in Lewisville, and four grandchildren.

The Rev. Canon René Somodevilla

Sunday Assistant

The Rev. Canon René Somodevilla joined the clergy staff at Saint Michael and All Angels as a Sunday Assistant in September 2018. He has also served as Interim Associate for Pastoral Care and Interim Associate for Worship & Liturgy during his time at Saint Michael. A Cuban native, Fr. René came to the United States in 1960. After living in Miami, Florida and Wichita Falls, Texas, he received his graduate degree in Clinical Social Work in 1972 from the University of Texas at Arlington. In 1984, he graduated from seminary at the Anglican School of Theology and was ordained to the priesthood by January of 1985. He has served at Church of the Ascension in Dallas, St. Barnabas’ in Garland, St. Elisabeth’s in Memphis, Tennessee, and St. Andrew’s in Collierville, Tennessee. He was Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of West Tennessee, Interim Canon to the Bishop Pro Tempore in the Diocese of Dallas, and Assistant to the Rector at Holy Trinity by the Lake in Heath. Most recently, he served on a part-time basis at Church of the Incarnation in Dallas.

Long-time members of Saint Michael, René and his wife, Nancy, have been married for 26 years and have six children and ten grandchildren between them. Nancy is a speech pathologist working for a charter school and serves the Dallas Independent School District as a speech therapist. At Saint Michael, Nancy’s ministry includes lay leadership for Pastoral Care and missional initiatives such as Project Moses.

Flowers in our holy worship spaces are a beautiful gift to God and those who attend services at Saint Michael as well as those being honored or remembered. A contribution to the Flower Fund is a meaningful way to honor or remember a loved one for special life events such as birthdays, anniversaries, baptisms, confirmations, thanksgivings, or in memory of a loved one.
