Music plays a vital role in both the traditional and contemporary worship life at Saint Michael and All Angels. The choirs, instrumentalists, and singers at Saint Michael provide musical leadership during sung worship services. Adults, youth, and children all share their musical gifts leading inspiring congregational hymns and service music along with providing anthems, worship songs, and major choral works from many choral and musical genres and periods. Saint Michael is a member of the Royal School of Church Music in America. Traditional Music at Saint Michael

The music program at Saint Michael and All Angels has a reputation for excellence throughout the Episcopal Church and within the greater Dallas community. Our Choirs offer unique choral singing opportunities for young children, youth, and adults. Saint Michael Presents provides high-quality entertaining concerts open to the public free of charge throughout the year.

Contemporary Music at Saint Michael

In Saint Michael Contemporary, you will find music crafted by musicians who have extensive experience in classical, rock, folk, jazz, and a heart to lead worship in the beauty of holiness.

Using guitars, piano, strings, percussion, double bass, and other instruments from all over the world, one may hear a 15th – 18th century hymn, a current worship song, or a song they have heard on the radio in the same service. The music of Saint Michael Contemporary is an exciting blend of sounds that lead in a Christ-centered, rich worship experience connected to an ancient faith that fosters hope for here and now.

Adult Choir

The Saint Michael Choir is the church’s adult choir. Singers called to this ministry should have basic music literacy skills. Adult volunteers are supported by a group of professional staff singers in each section that enable the ensemble to sing a wide variety of music from many choral styles and traditions. For more information, including joining the choir, please contact Catherine Seveney at [email protected].

Chorister & Cherub Choirs (Children & Youth)

Our Chorister program encompasses choirs for children and youth. The Cherub Choir is for children in Pre-K through Grade 2. The Treble Choristers includes boys from Grade 3 through voice change and girls in Grades 3 to 8. Senior Choristers are boys with changed voices who sing alto, tenor, or bass, and girls in high school.

Choral Compline

The Compline Choir, featuring sixteen of Dallas’ finest singers, will weave a gorgeous mosaic of our faith’s foundations through a musical journey from the English Renaissance to New Age “Americana.” This service invites us to reflect on these pillars as we embark on laying our own new foundations during this season of physical change. We invite you to join us for an evening of reflection as we deepen our spiritual connection to our roots and embrace the future together.

Coming from the Latin completorium, from which we have our word “complete,” this meditative service is designed as the concluding prayer of our day. This service includes musical offerings ranging from 4th-century chants through newly commissioned works. Lasting around 30 minutes in our candlelit church, Compline is aimed at concluding our weekend with reflection, calm, and peace, and is an ideal setting for those who may not regularly attend church.

We offer in-person Choral Compline a few times a year. On each occasion, the main church Douglas Avenue doors will be open to a quiet, candlelit church at 6:30 p.m. and the service begins at 7 p.m.

Saint Michael Presents is committed to producing a high quality, entertaining concert series equaling performances found in other fine arts venues in the greater Dallas Community. The concerts, open to the public and free of charge, are designed to strengthen the souls of people throughout the community through fine arts.

Paul Thomas Memorial Chorister Scholarship

The Paul Thomas Memorial Chorister Scholarship is an endowment established to recognize outstanding young singers within the Saint Michael Choristers. Funds will provide scholarships for chorister events as an enduring memorial to Dr. Thomas’ legacy and passion for young singers.
