Rector's Bible Study

Rector's Bible Study (RBS)

Join our Rector, Chris Girata, for his weekly Rector’s Bible Study (RBS) beginning Wednesday, September 20 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Michael Chapel or online. This year, we will study the Gospel of John.

Download the Gospel of John RBS Bookmark

Over the past two years, RBS has focused on a fascinating character study of Moses and David. Together, Moses and David provide a foundation upon which the promise of a Messianic King is understood. After Jesus’s resurrection and ascension, his disciples sought to understand him within the context of the Jewish promise of a Messiah, as well as Jesus’s call to spread his message beyond the Jewish community. Now that we have created a sure foundation of the prophet and the king, we shift to study the most important figure in our history, Christ.

Although not required, this year’s companion book will be “John” by N.T. Wright and is available in the Saint Michael Book Shop. For more information about the Rector’s Bible Study or to be added to our email list, please email Bhav Masih at [email protected].

Watch Live or On-Demand Classes

As always, please send any questions pertaining to the study throughout the week to: [email protected]. You can also email Bhav during the study and in the chat features on Facebook and YouTube and she will share those questions with Chris who will answer live during the study. Also, email her to be added to our email mailing list or for more information.

The Rev. Dr. Christopher D. Girata

Rector

The Rev. Dr. Christopher D. Girata was called to be the eighth Rector of Saint Michael and All Angels in 2016. Previously, Chris served as Rector of Calvary Episcopal Church in downtown Memphis, Tennessee, as Associate Rector at St. Luke’s in Birmingham, as a seminarian at The National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and St. John’s in Chevy Chase, MD.

Bi-monthly, Chris writes a column for Katy Trail Weekly. These articles cover timely topics from gratitude and love to success and the future. In these columns, he uses a real-life personal example and turns it into something to ponder. On Wednesdays, Chris leads a Bible study titled Rector’s Bible Study that is also developed into a podcast. He has been leading these weekly classes since its inception in 2017.

Chris holds degrees from Stetson University, Emory University, the Virginia Theological Seminary, and his doctorate from Duke University. He is recognized as a leader in the Episcopal Church, presenting regularly at church-wide conferences, seminars and retreats, and the Episcopal Parish Network.

Chris is a native of Florida, a classically trained musician, and an amateur cook. He and his wife, Nicole, have three children: Brayden, Layna, and Annemarie.

Bhavnita Masih

After high school, she moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas, earning her Bachelor’s in Speech Communication in 1995. Austin is also where she met her future husband, Neelesh. Neel and Bhav have been blessed with three children, Joshua, Rebekah, and Daniel.

Bhav is a Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) with deep experience as an Executive Assistant, most recently working with executives at Interstate Batteries. In addition, she brings with her many years of ministry experience working with family and children’s ministry. The Pastoral Epistles: Wrestling with Discipleship

Wednesday, September 27, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

The Pastoral Epistles are a rich and challenging collection of texts that offer insights into the early Christian Church. This class delves into the complexities of these texts, exploring their significance for understanding discipleship in the contemporary context. By wrestling with the text, participants will examine themes such as personal piety, teaching in the church, and the role of "good works" in our Christian lives. Through engaging discussions, biblical analysis, and historical context, we will gain a deeper appreciation for the Pastoral Epistles and their relevance to modern discipleship. For more information and to register, please email The Rev. Christian Basel: [email protected]

Flowers in our holy worship spaces are a beautiful gift to God and those who attend services at Saint Michael as well as those being honored or remembered. A contribution to the Flower Fund is a meaningful way to honor or remember a loved one for special life events such as birthdays, anniversaries, baptisms, confirmations, thanksgivings, or in memory of a loved one.
