Candlelight Mass

The Candlelight Mass is a modified Rite II Eucharist held on Saturday evenings, typically in either the Church or Saint Michael Chapel (look for information regarding the location in the Sunday News and also posted in the Church building). The service is reflective and contemplative with guitar accompaniment. When the service is held in the Church, those attending are seated around the altar in monastic fashion.

This service uses a special service leaflet and the Book of Common Prayer.

Discovery Mass – 9 a.m.

The Discovery Mass is a modified, contemporary Rite II Eucharist held at 9:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall. The service has blended worship music with our Discovery Mass worship band. Children serve as acolytes and lay readers for the service. During the homily and the celebration of the Eucharist, children are invited up to the front of the Chapel to participate actively. Families volunteer to serve as ushers.
This service uses the Book of Common Prayer and a music booklet.

Joy Mass – 9 a.m.

The Joy Mass is a modified Eucharist designed for children 3-5 years old and their families. The service is held in the Saint Michael Chapel. The atmosphere is informal. Music is contemporary, with keyboard and singing by the Junior Cherub Choir. Children are invited to sit in front of the altar during the sermon and the first part of the Eucharist. Families volunteer to serve as ushers.
This service uses a special service leaflet.

Rite II Eucharist – 9 a.m.

The 9 a.m. service in the Church is a traditional Rite II Eucharist. Traditional Anglican music accompanied by the Church’s organ is provided by the Saint Dunstan’s Choir, which consists of both children and adults. Children and parents who prefer a more formal service are among those who attend, as well as a large cross-section of adults. Lectors and acolytes serving at this service are typically teenage parishioners.

Children’s chapel, a worship experience for children ages 3-7, happens for a portion of this service. Children are led to the Bishop Moore Chapel for songs, prayers, and stories before returning to their parents to participate in communion.

This service uses the Book of Common Prayer and Hymnal.

The 11:00 a.m. service in the Church is a traditional Rite I Eucharist. Traditional Anglican choral music with organ and the Oratorio Choir is a central part of the service. A cross-section of the parish attends this service, which uses the Book of Common Prayer and Hymnal.

The Celebration – 11 a.m.

The Celebration is a modern worship service held in the Parish Hall. Service music is a blend of genres, led by an acoustic worship band. There is a 20-minute sermon and Rite II Eucharist each week.  The service draws a diverse group of parishioners who prefer a less formal, more relaxed service.

This service uses a prayer book liturgy and contemporary music presented on Power Point.

This class of inquisitive women seeks to learn more about emerging church ideas and new ways of looking at Christianity.  Discussion of selected books and videos is facilitated by members of the group.  Marcus Borg’s The Heart of Christianity is foundational (new members will want to read it) and gave the group its name: “Discerning the heart of Christianity thus involves us in an ‘unending conversation.’ “

The Mission of the Saint Michael and All Angels Caregivers Support Group is to assist those in our parish who are caring for a loved one.  We do this by providing a confidential place to share feelings and experiences of caregiving and by providing books, pamphlets, and handouts on a variety of topics related to caregiving in the Church Library.  Click here for our Index of Church Library Resources for Caregivers.

Prayer Shawl Knitting

A “hands on” ministry for those who love to knit and those who want to learn to knit. Knitters knit, pray, and tag their shawls with a prayer for the recipient. The shawls are then blessed by the clergy and the congregation in Sunday services before they are given to those who are in need. This has been an effective ministry in extending the love of our parish to those who are hurting or ill. To date, over 1,000 shawls have been knitted and given away by this ministry. Bring your needles and join this group who meet every Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Drake Room.
