TELA, HONDURAS DAY 1
Monday, February 19, 2024
By the Rev. Robin Hinkle
We have arrived, and our greeting at the airport by our host group of high school seniors was wonderful! We then loaded a mountain of duffel bags and people and suitcases for the one-and-a-half-hour trek to Tela. Always an interesting trip! My favorite highlight was the juggler standing of his buddy as they were panhandling on the side of the road for tips.
We finished our day Seaside meal a paella as we got to know our senior high school team. On Sunday we attended church at Espiritu Santo with the Rev. Olga Barrera, the headmistress of the school and the director of the church. It was a bilingual service and is memorable. The way we passed the peace where we greet every single person as we share peace and hugs.
Today was our first day in the field. I am looking forward to hearing the stories from our teams that spread out across the city. We had our welcome ceremony from the school that included colorful costumes, song and prayer and a flock of dancing crows.
Blessings of joy and peace from Tela Honduras!
