TELA, HONDURAS DAY 3
Wednesday, February 21, 2024
By the Rev. Robin Hinkle
Today was a wonderful day that started with rain and ended with sunshine! Tela Honduras has two extremes of weather- monsoon rain and then clear blue skies. Today’s morning storm made the always precarious trip up to Campo Elvir even more interesting. This small school perches on the side of a mountain. Thank goodness for 4-wheel drive as the construction team and the barrio team made the trek. We were greeted by the sweet maestra(teacher) and her students. All the newbies got their practice run in preparation for tomorrow as we treated 30 students with fluoride.
The amazing eyeglass team fitted over 100 people for reading glasses. Thank you so much to Rosamond Brown who so pastorally works with each person to find the strength of glasses that they need. She is joined by Melvyn Douglas her trusty sidekick who helps her with the logistics. The gift of clear sight is a joy to those young and old.
The construction team finished painting the covered play yard, adding aqua blue accents. They then broke out a soccer ball and played a no-holds-barred game against the older students of the school. I think the students won!
The Christian education teams continued leaving a trail of glitter and rhinestone stickers as well as song, dance, and our message of God. We tell the children that the Holy Spirit is always with you and in you ready to share love, peace, and joy in your heart and life.
This afternoon I had the joy of joining Sally Schupp and Mary Elizabeth Schleier with the school team in their work at the El Sauce barrio. They are so amazing in their work. I also received the great blessing of watching one of our high school senior team members, Gabby, as she enthralled the students with her telling of the Good Samaritan story. She is a wonderful teacher and missionary. Blessings of peace this day!
